I’m pretty sure that the big problem that kids our age are facing is the 9/11. The war has gone on for a long time and there has been many people dying. We have also had to face a bunch of money problems. The taxes go higher each year to help pay for it. We have also had to learn a bunch of stuff in school about it. And hear about all the soldiers in the war still dying each week.

Responses to Student #2:

1.(#21) Its devistating to hear how many people are dying. why they are dying, or how they died. Its sad. And a bunch of love ones have lost their loved ones in the war. Or their friends or parts of their loved ones have died. Its very sad.

2. 27 I agree. It's really sad to hear about the soldiers dying all the time, and about taxes and everything. Learning about it is kind've depressing too after hearing about it all the time on the news. But I guess it's good we learn about it so we have a clue as to what's going on in the world, even if it is sad.

3. 3Taxes and war are a big problem. I agree with what you think. Some generations grow up not having to see violence and war.

Student #3

I think the biggest problem teens face these day’s is drugs and alcohol. They are exposed to it every day on TV, in magazines, and even in school. Some teens are exposed to it at home as well. This has a lot to do with peer pressure too.

Student #4 I think the biggest problem that most teens are age hve is not being healthy. There are so many places that have junk food like fries, chips, and many more things. The junk food tastes good but is bad for you. I think we shuold eat healthier.

Responses to Student #4:

1.(14) I agree its a problem but I think our focus should be more on the economy and the terrorist organizations.

Student #6 I feel that the biggest thing that we have had to face is online predators, kidnappers, and general weirdoes. While I have never had any experiences with these people, it is becoming a huge problem in America. Because of AIM and other chat sites, child kidnappers have had a much easier time of getting a hold of kids. School shootings are also becoming more frequent. Since Columbine, 31 school shootings have occurred. More than 50 teachers and students have died at the hands of the shootings. This has to stop.

Responses to Student #6:

1.[#7] I agree that it has become easier to kidnap and that is probably mainly due to the more programs available on the internet. I also think that not only school shootings but safety in schools in general have gotten pretty bad and I do believe it should stop!

2.~32~ I really didn't think about that. You are definitely right about it. The world used to be so friendly and kids could do more things on their own but now parents are afraid to leave their kids in certain places. A lot more people are just plain crazy as well!

Student #7Problems that kids may face our age that no other kids our age have had before could be Juvenile Diabetes and obesity. From all of the restaurants and activities that kids have it’s just so easy to pick something up and so kids are getting bigger and bigger by the day due to not eating right.

Responses to Student #7:

1. (#4) I agree with you because fast food tastes good but not good for you. The bad part is, is that some people wont stop eating it although they know it's bad for them. I think that restraunts should serve healthier foods.

Student #10 Maybe 9/11 or being afraid of terrorist attacks, or people dieing in the war on terror. Many people lost family member or people close to them. But other people in other times have faced war, people dieing, and terrorism. Hey, even Anne Frank faced the terrorism of the Nazis.

Responses to Student #10:

1.I agree with the kids facing 9/11 and close friends, completely agree.

Student #11

Lots of kids today are facing 9/11. A lot of kids had family members and close friends die. It was it 2001 but people are still having a long time to get over it. A lot of kids our age are facing the war in Iraq. It is hard a lot of kids have mom, dads, brothers, and sisters and friends going away to the war. And hearing about people dieing each week is hard for them to know if that could be a family member of a friend like when there friends would get taken away by the Nazis.

Responses to Student #11:

I agree what is happing today is like what happened to the Jews in WWII. I also today people our age have to face 9/11 and the war. --#10

Student #14We have problems like the major war in Iraq. Our economy is not doing so good and their are threats of terrorists and nuclear missiles. The only other time like it was in WW2. WW2 was alot alike with the wars but there never really was an attack on the U.S. except for Pearl Harbor which wasn't really an attack on the U.S. It was an attack on an island military base. Now with the press of a button you can blow up a state with nuclear missiles.

Student #15-- I think the biggest problem kids these days face is drugs and alcohol. Sure, kids grew up with it in the past but that was before we knew what it did to our bodies. You would think that once we figued it out and saw how awful people turn out after using drugs, that kids and adults would stop all together. Obviously, we didn't. Kids are know using alcohol and drugs to run away from everyday problems, such as school, parents, friends, grades, and just overall pressure. I think it is a horrible way to make yourself feel better, but thats not how some others look at it. Drugs and alcohol arn't the only problems kids nowadays have, but it's definatly noticed.

Student #19 I think our biggest problem in the world today is The War in Iraq. This war is causing budget problems and higher gas and oil prices. Many mothers, fathers, sister and brother are going to the war and some aren't coming back. Maybe 9/11 and the extra airport secruity. I think it would be bad if people threw people into camps, good thing nothing is happening like that right now.

Responses to Student #19:

1. [15] I agree with you, the war does devistate kids and create issues in schools and families. But now, more than ever, kids need to stick together. One thing I think keeping kids from doing this are all the cliques and groups formed in schools or by friends. It all needs to stop. Not the friends of course, but the cliques. Kids need to come together.

Student #20

I can’t really think of anything really big that we are facing now that no one else hasn’t faced it. There have been wars and money problems. Maybe 9/11? I don’t know if anything like that has happened yet. Also the extra safety measures at the air port. I can’t think of anything else I think that so far we haven’t had anything big the affected me. I don’t think a lot of people could imagine being in Anne’s place. I know that it would really freak me out that people where taking other people and putting them in camps and taking families a part. It good thing that nothing has happened like that in our time.

Responses to Student #20:

1.(28)9/11 is was a big problem we had to deal with. I'm not all that sure of any thing bigger that has affected me other than people bugging me since the fourth grade. I wouldn't like people putting me an a camp for just being jewish, I don't think that was fair at all. I wouldn't like me being away from my family for so long, I would prbably miss them. I'm glad that is not going happening any more.

2.(#22) Yeah. 9/11 was definitly a big problem. It wasn' t really preventable eiether. Some of the problems that us teens are facing today, are preventable! The good thing is, that since other people have faced these issues, we have someone to go to for advice! And I agree w/ you on the 9/11 part.

3. (#30) 9/11 was and still is a pretty big problem. What makes things worse that it was not preventable. I also agree with you on the 9/11 part.

Student #21 The biggest problem kids are age is facing is probably the 9/11 attack. Dads, moms, other family members and friends have died. Alot of kids our age dont have this problem. Peer pressure is another big problem. Everyday a teen is exposed to peer pressure. Its basicly life taking a stand. You have to make the choice now. No one else but u, have the power to make the choice.

Responses to Student #21:

1. (#19)I agree with the 9/11 attack, that was a big thing in 4th grade and it is a big thing know and I agree with all the family's dieing. Peer pressure is a HUGE issue. Nice, with the you have to make a choice and no one else can make that choice execpt you.

Student #22

Oh boy. There are so many issues that teens today are facing! I, personally, think that the biggest issue is something that EVERY single teen is exposed to everyday. It’s as simple as peer pressure. You are around your friends all the time! Even with little things, they’re pressuring you to do things. Weather it’s saying something, or doing something to someone or even doing something that might be harmful to you. I know I hear from people all the time, “ Oh…so-and-so told me to do this” or “ This person wanted me to go to this place with them” or even “She wanted me to take this from that other kid” Peer pressure can be simple things or they can be dangerous. Peer pressure can even be good. If someone is encouraging you to try to achieve something new, that’s peer pressure! I, personally think that peer pressure is the biggest issue that teen are facing these days.

Responses to Student #22:

1.(20) I didnt really think of peer pressure! But your right a lot of teens are faced with that every day. It doesnt have to be something big just as simple as someone telling you what to get for lunch. But yeah we are faced with that every day. I think too that it is getting bigger for kids to get pressured in to doing stuff.

2.(Student#29)I didn’t think of peer pressure, but you are so right! I know that some times you don’t even know your in peer pressure. All teens in one time or another have been faced with peer pressure. Also all teens in one time or another have been faced with peer pressure and didn’t even know it for instance you change your view on life, and other things around your friends. Even the smallest thing like wanting to sit at a different lunch table, that’s a form of peer pressure they may not back you up in a corner or say oh come on! Like you here about but you change your personality for people even just slightly and not even knowing it, that’s peer pressure.

Student #23 In my opinoin it's got to be the war in iraq, 9/11, and/or gas problems because when we start to drive who knows how much it will be then. Also peer pressure on stuff like drugs and drinking at a young age

Student #27 One of the biggest problems teenagers face today is having to hear about all the bad things happening in the world. We hear about it all the time on tv, and then we have to learn about it in school. Teens end up worrying about it and how it affects them, when most of the time it doesn't affect them at all. This probably was one of the problems many teenagers faced during the holocaust and the great depression.

Student #28 I had when some one has bothered me since the fourth grade and I have not had any one bother me since last year. I don't think any one has gotten bothered for that long before. I didn't like it one bit. I hope no one will bother me this year at all.

The problems people my age have to face are mostly at school and in ‘clicks’. Finding friends is a big one, worrying about not fitting in. Are you wearing the right brand names? Are you acting the right way? Are you speaking the lingo? All to become ‘popular’ or reach the group of people you want to hang out with. Also, drama and roomers. You might be surprised at the horrible roomers and the number of them that are going around school that aren’t true! The drama is mostly about boys when you’re a girl.“I liked him first” “I can’t believe my best friend would date him after we just went out!” Those are just a few of the many sentences uttered when ‘Boys’ are involved. I think these problems have been going on for a long, long time and when you get to my age it’s just a given that these problems will arise and it’s just a way of life.

Responses to Student #29:

1. (#22) Wow! You're So right! I agree completly. It makes me sick how much importance people place in clothes and "brand name". If you're wearing this, then you're cool. If you're wearing that, then you're a loser. If people that you're around base their friendship on whay you're wearing and where it's from, then they aren't good enough to be your friend in the first place.

2. [#31] I totally agree with you about how everyone just wants to fit in and wear only the clothes that have a brand name on them. And you're also right about how there are so many roomers going around that aren't true.

Student #30 There aren’t any huge problems that people my age have except two and they are looking good and fitting in. Before our time people have never really had to worry about fitting in because people were a lot more alike back then. Other than that there aren’t any real problems that teenagers have.

The biggest problem the world is faced with is probably the war and terrorism. There are so many people dieing from it, just like in the book how people are dieing in the concentration camps. 9/11 is also a big one because that was basically the start of the whole war. There is also all the money problems we are faced with, exspecialy our school. But the problems of people my age is probably trying to fit in, and trying to be the most popular. And if you don't wear brand name clothes then you can't hang out with certain people. The money and war problems other generations have probably already been through. And they have probably already been through the popularity problems too.

Responses to Student #31:

1.#2 I totally agree with you about the war. I also didn’t even think about the popularity thing. But that’s true too. I think that the war definitely cost people money.

2.(#22) I personally think that the whole war and terrorism issue puts into perspective the popularity problem. I mean, is it more important that you're wearing all the latest clothes from this place and that place, and that you have all the popular friends, or is it more important that people are trying to tear apart our country by bombing places that are irreplacable to our country? 100s of people are dying over in the war, fighting for our freedom, and us young people are over here concerned with wether we fit in or not. I totally agree with you.

3. {11}I agree with you on the war and the terrorism. I also agree that a big thing is popularity. Everyone wants to be in the in-crowd and wants for everyone to know there name.

Student #32

I think one of the major problems today that kids our age are facing are things like technology and information overload. There is a lot more knowledge on the world today then there ever has been and there is use of lots of technology that people back when could have never known how to use. Also, there is probably a lot more stress on kids our age. The stress of doing well and getting good grades to do well later in life and things like that are probably a bigger concern now then ever before, so kids now have more stress put on them. Other people were saying that the war is a major problem that kids have never had to deal with before, but I don’t agree because this war isn’t as bad as for example the war Anne was living with many years ago.
