HOW TO TYPE YOUR RESPONSE

Directions:

1. Please craft excellent, thoughtful, and full response (a paragraph or so) for the question. It is best to write and revise them in a word document, spell check and correct, and then cut and paste to this. Even though this is a "posting board," you must write quality paragraphs -- capitalization, punctuations, spelling, etc. matter. PLEASE, NO PERSONAL INFORMATION.

2. Type next to your number.

3. You need to respond to yourself AND repond to a class member.

4. Remember to identify your number when responding to another response. Ex. #4, (4), 4 --,

Example:

#1 I noticed that sometimes I felt uncomfortable being "It." I like it better when I was one of the other kids. It sort of reminds me of baseball. I like to bat, but I don't like to play outfield. Sometimes I felt other kids were not taking it seriously enough, or following the rules. That sort of ruined it. It was really frustrating when I didn't know the secret. It was great when I figured it out. It kind of reminded me of figuring out a math problem. I still don't know why it's about human nature.

Responses to #1:

#5. Me too! Except, I think I know why it's about human nature. It felt like when my friends try to keep a secret from each other. I thought it was funny when she was talking "Gibberish" because it reminded me of when I was in France, and my family had to figure out what people were saying. We used a lot of hand gestures when we talked. It was frustrating, and we felt like we didn't belong.

QUESTION ONE (Make certain that you have read Act 1, Scenes 1 and 2 before crafting your responses.)

What did you notice about your own thoughts, feelings and behavior while playing the games?

Student #2 When we played the game, black magic, I was a little frustrated because I couldn't figure out how he kept getting the item right! But as we were reading "The Diary of Ann Frank" I felt sorry for the families because I would hate to live like that. Not being able to go outside or to see your friends that would be very hard for me. I'm excited to play black magic again and to read more about Ann Frank.

When we started playing Black Magic I thought it was amazing how the person got the object right every time! Until after the third time when I began to wonder how in the world he was doing this. I started to guess and each time my answers were incorrect. This was making me very frustrated. “How does this work?” I thought. Now, that I’ve really thought about this game I’m almost positive I know the answer and I’m excited to see if I’m right on Monday.

When we played Kitty in the Corner I thought it was really fun! I liked taking risks when the kitty was about to get to me I would quickly run and trade places with someone else!

Responses to Student #4:

1.Yup the chance part was the funnest. (taking risks)#5

Student #5 I thought kiddy wants your corner was pretty fun. And I like Black Magic! It showed who had patience and who could make their mind work in a frusturating time. Kiddy wants your corner was fun but I didn't get the point of that one.

1. While we were playing black majic I thought it was the best game ever for me and for no one else because I was the "it" person. Everyone was confused and I was laughing in my head(Me hee hee). Kitty Corner was fun as well because the middle person had no idea when people were darting across the circle.

Student #7 When I played the game black magic I was really frustrated. I was frustrated because I did'nt know the secret of how the person kept guessing the right item . But when I thought about it more I thought I had the secret but then they said it was incorrect . So then I got really really frusterated so then I just gave up.Also when we played Black Magic I felt left out . When I played kitty in the corner it was really fun . I liked it when the person that was it said "toss the treats"because everyone scrambled to get a spot . I hope we play kitty in the corner again soon.

Responses to Student #7:I agree. When a lot of people understood and I still didn't, I got very frustrated also. The secret may have been in your guess (#7's guess.). The game kitty in the corner sounds like how Anne's family had to scramble and leave after a very short notice. It is fun. Anne had fun at first, but then became sad after some time. This may not relate as much to this game. #9

Student #8 While playing the game of black magic I felt frustrated and a little confused. I didn’t know what the secret to the game was for a while and I didn’t understand the way he always got it. Once people started getting it, it popped into my head what the answer was, but it still frustrated me before I got it. Kitty in the corner was a fun game and I didn’t get frustrated at all. It was fun to make other people try to run after you to get your spot.

Responses to Student #8:

1. I was scared and it wasn't fun at all. How could you enjoy someone trying to take your corner? I agree with you about the black magic game i figured out the secret after i thought about it and looked for patterns.20

2.)I was confused too! I didn’t get it at first but I think I know what the trick is now. But it sure took me long enough! I thought it was fun playing kitty in the corner; I liked to take the chances and trade with a different person across the room. (#4)

Student #9 That was a well written story in the way that the author states how each character feels by implying and incorperating details to keep it a semi-mystery. Anne didn't quite understand what circumstance she was in. She will be very dissapointed once it hits her. Her dad put on a happy face in front of his daughter to help her realize the good things, but underneath it all, I think he is scared. Her mom is worried about Anne. The family they moved in with is very nice and generous but very shy. They brought their cat which reminds Anne about her cat.

I began to feel frusturated while playing the game "Black Magic". At first, I was sure I had the answer, but I was incorrect. When class ended, and I still didn't know what the trick was, I was dying to know! That game was okay, but I liked "Kitty wants a Corner" much more. I thought it was funny to see everyone scrabling in different directions when the kitty would say,"toss the treats!" I also made a connection between this game and __The Diary of Anne Frank__. In both cases, you had to leave where you were originally from and you had to leave without people seeing you. I would like to play "Kitty wants a Corner" again.

Responses to Student #10:

1. You're right kitty corner was fun. I had a blast confusing the middle person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could tell you the magical secret of black majic and the truth is I can read minds.(Ha HE Hoo Ha)#6-This kid is awesome.#13- I agree with mr. or mrs. 6 over hear.

2. I agree. I liked Kitty in the Corner a lot more than black magic. It had much more action than Black magic. It was pretty fun running around when the kitty called toss the treats. Black Magic also made me frustrated. Likewise, I was dying to know the answer. I also would like to play Kitty in the Corner again. (21)

Student #11

I think “Kitty wants a corner” was a fun game. I felt happy when I was playing the game. It was a fun game because you got to run around when the “Kitty” said throw the treats. Everyone was running to get a new corner. Black magic was a game that frustrated me. It made you really think. At first you think that you got how the Black magic person guesses what the object is but then you find out that you guessed wrong. It really bites you. When we read “Anne Frank Diary” I made a little connection with the story. In both cases there was a secret. In the story the Franks had to keep a secret about there hiding. In the “Black Magic” game the person that was it had to keep a secret about how he guessed the right object all the time.

Responses to Student #11:

1. I felt the same way during black magic it really frustrated me to. I also thought that kitty in the corner was a fun game , I liked it when the person in the middle said "toss the treats" because everyone scrambles for a new spot. (7) the lucky #

Student #12

When we played Kitty in the Corner and Black Magic I found both games to have certain tricks. In Kitty in the Corner, you always snuck behind the Kitty while they were occupied. The riskier your moves were, the more exciting the game was. In Black Magic, I got very frustrated that I wasn't in on the secret. When I finally thought I knew what it was, I was told by our teacher that I was wrong! I kept on telling myself, 'it is just a game', but I wanted to know so bad!!!

Responses to Student #12:

1. Yes I also agree that I wanted to know so bad about how the person that was it in “Black Magic”, always got the right thing. I had one guess and it seemed reasonable that I was right but then I was wrong and it really annoyed me. (11)

Student #13 Act1 scenes 1&2 when we palyed "black majic" i was very mad becaue it was to hard to figure out what the awser was. in the "diary of ann frank" i couldent even begin to imagin how hard it would be to not be able to go outside and not even to be able to talk in a loud voice during the day.

Student #14 During Kitty in the corner I felt very excited and giddy.

I really wanted someone to get caught and then be the Kitty. When they said throw the treats I didn't really worry about getting a spot you just went about one or two spots over and you were fine. In Black Magic I felt left out of the secret and that gave me even more will power to figure it out. Once I almost had it I felt very confidnent in what I was doing and I didn't feel left out anymore.

Responses to Student #14: 1. (Student #12) - I had the same feeling in Black Magic. Every round of the game made me want to know the secret more and more! In the beginning of Kitty in the Corner, I used the same strategy as you, moving one or two spaces over each time, but I started to get bored later on so I challenged the Kitty more often.

Student #16 When we played kitty in the corner it was so much fun! I loved just running around, trying not to get caught by kitty. Then everyone scrambling to get a new spot when they said toss the treats. In black magic I had fun watching the person get it every time but then it just got frustrating! I wanted to be in on the secret too! After I found out what it was though, it all made sense and was so much more fun! For me it’s just much more enjoyable when you know you are one of the few that got it and many are still trying to figure it out.

Responses to Student #16:

1. UGH! I haven't figured it out but I want to! I agree that it would be more fun if you knew what it was but I don't! I wish I did though. I also loved Kitty in the Corner! It was fun and I loved how excited everyone got! (19)

2.I thought it was funny when people were all confused when they didn't know what the secret was, but I was one of the so I knew how they felt. I also really liked kitty in the corner. (8)

When we were playing Kitty in the Corner I had a lot of fun. It was hilarious to watch people try to run all the way across the circle and switch places. It was even funnier when they did! It was a total scramble when the person in the middle said “Toss the treats!” Everyone was running and trying to not be it. I wonder why anyone would say yes and give up their corner, but then some people just said “toss the treats,” so I guess anything can happen.

When we played Black Magic I was so frustrated. I couldn’t figure it out. I was even more frustrated when other people started figuring it out. Since only like 5 people figured it out in my class I wasn’t too worried. As the game went on and he got it right over and over again, I got more and more frustrated, but when the game was over it didn’t matter anymore. All my frustration went away as soon as the game was over. Sure I kept thinking about it but I wasn’t upset about it.

All in all the games were pretty fun and I would play them again in class.

Responses to Student #19:

1. I agree with 19 on when they said it was funny when people said toss the treats and everyone went scrambling. I'm pretty sure people felt the same way when we changed. I also agree with their frustration in Black Magic.(14)

Student #20 When we played kitty in the corner i felt threatned because somebody was trying to take my corner! I didn't want to give away my corner so i said "go to my neighbor" When they left i felt relieved because they weren't trying to take my corner anymore. When we played black magic i got really frustrated 'cause i couldn't figure out the secret, but last night(thursday) i figured it out and felt as if all of my burdens went away with the secret. The secret is when they p....

Responses to Student #20:

1. I agree in black magic I got relly frustrated when I could'nt figure it out but it was better when you knew it. Though i don't totally agree with your thoughts on kitty in the corner I must say I was alos relieved when kitty passed me by to go to my neighbor.(16)

Student #21 Out of the two games, my favorite was Kitty in the Corner. There was a lot more action compared to Black Magic. It was fun trying to make switches with people in different places across the room. When the person in the middle called “toss the treats,” everyone went wild, and tried not to become the kitty. I definitely think that there is a connection between this game and the story.

In the game black magic, I had know idea how the person guessed the object every time. I thought that they were just getting really lucky. Then I figured out that there was some trick to it. I was really curious to what the solution was. After I guessed a couple times and still couldn’t get it I was very frustrated. I still want to know what the answer is.

Responses to Student #21:

1. I agree that Kitty in the corner was lots of fun, but I really can't find a connection with Anne Frank. With Black Magic, I know what the answer is but i didn't the whole time so i feel your pain. It's seriously not fun when you can figure it out. (30)

When we were playing the kitty wants your corner game, I thought it was kind of pointless. I mean it was fun and all but I have no idea how it relates to anything. I love games like Black Magic that make you think. I get so frustrated when I can’t figure it out but it’s really fun once you do. While we were playing, I was just starting to get annoyed with it when Mrs. Shick told me the answer and let me run the game. I’m one of those people who hates to be out of the loop so that made it more entertaining for me.
