HOW TO TYPE YOUR RESPONSE

Directions:

1. Please craft excellent, thoughtful, and full response (a paragraph or so) for the question. It is best to write and revise them in a word document, spell check and correct, and then cut and paste to this. Even though this is a "posting board," you must write quality paragraphs -- capitalization, punctuations, spelling, etc. matter. PLEASE, NO PERSONAL INFORMATION.

2. Type next to your number.

3. You need to respond to yourself AND repond to a class member.

4. Remember to identify your number when responding to another response. Ex. #4, (4), 4 --,

Example:

#1 I noticed that sometimes I felt uncomfortable being "It." I like it better when I was one of the other kids. It sort of reminds me of baseball. I like to bat, but I don't like to play outfield. Sometimes I felt other kids were not taking it seriously enough, or following the rules. That sort of ruined it. It was really frustrating when I didn't know the secret. It was great when I figured it out. It kind of reminded me of figuring out a math problem. I still don't know why it's about human nature.

Responses to #1:

#5. Me too! Except, I think I know why it's about human nature. It felt like when my friends try to keep a secret from each other. I thought it was funny when she was talking "Gibberish" because it reminded me of when I was in France, and my family had to figure out what people were saying. We used a lot of hand gestures when we talked. It was frustrating, and we felt like we didn't belong.

QUESTION ONE (Make certain that you have read Act 1, Scenes 1 and 2 before crafting your responses.)

What did you notice about your own thoughts, feelings and behavior while playing the games?

Student #1- While we were playing Kitty Corner, I actually felt kind of bored. When someone looked at me to switch, I didn't mind running to their place. However, I never really fought for a spot when they "tossed the treats". Even though I didn't try really hard, I was never "it". Maybe that explains why I never got frustrated or felt anything other than indifference. I wasn't frustrated in Black Magic either; just curious to know what the trick was. When people were picking things such as the ceiling, someone's left eye, etc. I got really impatient. I just wanted the person who stayed outside to come in and say "yes" or "no" so I could have more time observing and possibly figuring out the answer. At the time, it seemed like all that mattered was figuring out what the trick was. Asking someone didn't seem like a bad idea, but it would have made me feel bad if I knew I didn't figure it out myself. After I learned the trick, it didn't matter much anymore, and those who were badgering me for the answer just seemed ridiculous.

Responses to Student #1:

1. During Kitty Wants a Corner I felt the same way as you did but I didn't run across the circle much. When they tossed the treats I just wanted a spot and I never really moved far. In Black Magic I really wanted to observe too. I never did figure it out but I wanted to know, so I didn't give up trying! (17)

Student #3 I thought that the Kitty Corner game was fun at first, but it got pretty boring quickly. I only switched with the people next to me because I didn't want to be "it" and have everyone's attention on me. Watching other people run across the center crazily was kind of funny though. The other game, Black Magic, was a lot more fun. I enjoyed trying to figure out what the secret was even though it was a little frustrating. I had lots of ideas, but none of them were even close. I've played games like this before. In the ones I have played, the person running the game taps their foot or something, so that's what I thought was happening in Black Magic. I figured out the answer right before we left for our electives. Once I knew how it was done, I wondered why it took me so long to figure it out. After lunch we played some more, but by that point I had lost interest. As for Giberish, what was the point of it? I'm not really sure what any of these games have to do with human nature.

Responses to Student #3:

1. I know what you mean when you said that it you had a lot of ideas for what the trick was for black magic, but none of them were right. There were so many things running through my head, but once the person leading the game did another round, my ideas were always proved wrong! It got kind of annoying, but it was still fun. (1)

2. I agree I only switched with the people next to me so I wasn't "it". I also found the secret out for black magic before we left for electives, so I lost interest as well. (11)

Responses to Student #9:

1. While playing the Black Magic game, I was a little confused at first, but once I got what the trick was, I felt more confident, but it was kind of like some people were taking the game way to seriously.

Student #10

When I was playing the games I only got frustrated while I was playing kitty in the conner. I was frustrated because someone took the spot before I could get to it. It reminded me of being late to lunch and someone had already gotten my spot at the lunch table. It kind of ruins the whole moment. When we were playing black magic I really didn't get frustrated I was more irritated that other people didn't get what the game was about. It seemed like a pretty simple concept to me and I could not understand why it was confusing so many people. Then I had to stop and think that there are a lot of times that I don't understand things when other people do. It gave me an opportunity to see how other people feel when I am confused.

Student #11- During the game Kitty in the Corner I had a lot of fun. Trying to get from one place to another when you had to get there quickly, but not too obnoxiously so the “it” person could get to your spot was pretty challenging. I have absolutely no clue what it has to do with human nature though. Black Magic was pretty annoying, until I figured out what it is, then I was like, how did I not see that? I think I was just over thinking it, trying to think of things that were harder to figure out. It really helped to talk to my table, because we eventually all had the same idea. Then when one of us guessed and got it right, we could all answer. I still have no idea what this has to do with human nature too.

Responses to Student #11:

1. I am student #24 I agree with student #11 except when #11 talked about black magicand ficuring what the secerat is. What is the meaning of these games?

Responses to Student #13:

1. I felt confused at some points and at other times it was pretty fun because it made me very curious. I always wanted to know what was going to come next. The games were fun and entertaining. During black magic, I wanted to know what the secret was, but I could never find out. All along, the answer was in the name of the game. BLACK magic!

Student #14 I had fun playing the game ?Kiddy wants a corner? because I was never

it. Also, I never had a problem finding a spot, or trading spots with people. During?Black Magic? I was annoyed that I couldn?t figure out the clue. My table and I paid attention to all the details when Mrs. Schick pointed to things, but none of us could guess it. I think that it relates to human nature because the frustration that a lot of us were experiencing has to do with how Mr. Frank felt when he understood that he had to go into hiding with his family.

Responses to Student #14:

1. This is Student#15, I think the reason Black Magic frustrated a lot of people because they didn’t get the point of the game. I think that the reason Black Magic was created is to make people see that human nature is not what you always do, or say, but what you do differently that one time you think someone is not looking.

Student #15

I noticed a lot of people refusing to give ‘kitty’ a corner, only because they didn’t want to be ‘it’. I gave ‘kitty’ my corner because the game tells a lot about their character, if they are nice they give ‘kitty’ a corner, but if they’re not so nice, then they don’t give ‘kitty’ a corner.

Responses to Student #15:

1. Sounds like you are really nice and had fun showing it. #22

Student #16 I felt that even though i didn't know how to play the games, I caught on quickly and soon felt that I had played the game before

Student #17 During "Kitty Wants a Corner", I didn't want to give anyone my corner so I just passed it to my neighbor because I didn't want to be it! I didn't run across the circle, I really just stayed on one half of it. I don't see what that game would have to do with human nature and how it would refer to "The Diary of Anne Frank" except that some people like taking risks and others like staying safe and right where they are. During "Black Magic", I thought I knew the secret but I was wrong. I was getting really frustrated because I wanted to know the secret so bad. I think this game refers to human nature because naturally, people want to know secrets and when someone else figures it out, we really want to know.

Responses to Student #17:

1. I did the same thing in Kitty Corner because I didn't want to be it either. I think that #17 is right about how people want to know secrets, especially when their friends know. Maybe that's how Black Magic relates to human nature. (3)

Student #18 During kitty wants a corner, i didn't want to be it because the person in the middle was kinda outcast from the rest of the group. I also think that it might have related to the Diary of Ann Frank because whenever the kitty wanted the corner, it was usually denied, kind of how the jews were treated badly. In black magic i was very frustrated that i didnt know the secret, maybe how Ann didn't know anything about their hiding or why they were hiding.

Responses to Student #18:

1. i agree with student #17 i didn't like being in the middle. I got frustrated to during black magic trying to find out the secret when the other people knew what it was.

Student #22-When we were playing kitty in the corner I never found out why it was related to human nature. But it was still fun, having to trade places with someone. hoping you would beat the "it" person there. Black magic was fun, but frustrating. It was annoying not nowing what the seceret was. When Mrs. Schick was talking giberish. I thought it was funny but it was point less at the same time.

Responses to Student #22:

1. man i wish i was there it sounded like fun.

Student #24 During kitty in a corner I couldn't figure out what it had to do with human nature, I thought that Mrs. Schick seaking giberish was funny, black magic got me iratatted,it is amasing how littleit tackes to tick us.

Responses to Student #24:

1. I also got irritated from not knowing the trick to black

magic. And I have no idea what kiddy wants a corner has to do with human nature,

too. The games were pretty fun, but sometimes they were boring when you weren?t the

main person of the game.
