QUESTIONS FOR SECTION 4 -- QUESTION 3

Page history last edited by Anonymous 3 yrs ago

Question:

Part I: What were your thoughts and feeling during the games today in class?

NEW

Silent Directions/Instructions

Predator/Protector

Tag

Name Tag (duck)

Part II: Can you make more connections between the games we play and the text?

Connect the text with our games. Make as many connections as you can, and explain them enough so that we can understand your idea. Remember how it felt to play. What you were thinking about? What were you pretending? And then connect this to the text.

Here are a list of games that we've played so far (please note that some have been played more than one time):

Black Magic

Kitty in the Corner

Gibberish

Silent Directions/Instructions

Predator/Protector

Tag

Name Tag/Naming (yellow star, clock tower, fur coat, duck)

Student #1 I think the silent directions Mrs. Schick gave us to follow were like how the Jewish people in hiding had to do everything quietly so they wouldn't get caught. In predator and prey, I didn't really understand what to do. There was a predator (Nazis) and a protector (Kralers), but we kind of just walked around; nothing really happened. However, it was kind of creepy in a way. Someone was following me and growling, so I suppose I was their protector, but it felt as though they were stalking me! How tag ties in with the text, I don't know. It was hard to go in slow motion though; you just wanted to get away from the "it" person as fast as possible! Toilet tag is hard for me to connect too, but it was fun to flush people. At first, I was confused about the duck. "Did they eat duck in the annex?" I wondered. But then someone in class went "Quack!" And that made me realize that it was how Peter kept calling Anne Mrs.Quack Quack. It doesn't really seem to fit in with the whole holocaust idea, but it's pretty funny. Haha!

Responses to Student #1:

1. i had the same feeling but the duck didnt have to link it was just in the text

Student #3 I was pretty confused when we were playing the predator and protector game. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing. I still don't really know what was happening, but I do know how it relates to the text. The protector represented Meip and Mr. Kraler and the predetors were the Germans. It took me a minute, but I did end up understanding the silent directions. That was just like how everyone in the annex had to stay quiet throughout the day. The third game, slow motion tag, doesn't seem to fit into the story at all yet. Maybe we're like the Jewish people, trying not to run into the Germans or "it". I felt a little wierd playing in slow motion and having to kneel down in the second round. The duck nametag came from the part in the story where Peter is calling Anne "Mrs. Quack Quack". That was kind of obvious.

Responses to Student #3:

1. The way you relate Predator/Protector makes a lot of sense. I didn't understand either, but it sounds reasonable. (11)

Student #7 I was noe here for the game! but i will try to awnser this question. The class played slow tag and tha tprolbably made everyone fell not so good! that probably made the jews fell like they could get to where they wanted to be!!! The #3 person said that ther were confused during the game. i probaly would of been confused too!!!!! sinerly #7

Responses to Student #7:

1. i felt the same way except i wasnt confused i was very mad.(19)

Student #8

Responses to Student #8:-When Mrs. Schick gave us the silent directions it was like when Anne and her family and friends had to be quit in the annex. Then the predator and protector was some thing really weird because I just ended up walking in circles and tried to see who was trying to stay with me and who tried to stay away from me. I didn’t get what the predator and protector game had to do with the story. I also don’t know how the tag in slow motion game had to do with the story. It was hard to get away if you are the only one on one side and the person who is “it”, is coming to you in the center of the room. At the end of the class I didn’t know what it had to do with the story, but then a person shuts the answer out. If I had more time to think about the name tag then I would have guessed it would be when Peter kept on calling Anne Mrs. Quack.

1. I think I would have been able to figure the duck nametag out if I had had more time too. During predator and protector, I did just what you did; it was hard to stop walking in a circle!

Student #9- Playing the Predator Protector game made me feel a lot like I was being stalked, and like I couldn’t trust anyone. I thought it connected to Ann Franks Story because people probably couldn’t trust each other during the Holocaust, and they all felt really unsafe and scared. The Silent instructions got me a little confused, sometimes I couldn’t tell weather Mrs. Shick was saying one thing, or another thing, but once I saw what everyone else was doing, I just followed them and understood. I think this game related to the story because Ann Frank and her family and quests had to move around quietly and communicate silently. Playing Tag in slow motion was a little tough. It was hard to try and get away from someone if you couldn’t move fast. I think that this relates to the story because the Jews are trying to get away from getting caught by the Germans, or in our case, the person who was "it". The name tags on the other hand, I knew how it related to the story, because Anne’s class would call her Miss. Quack Quack, but I don’t know how it went with anything else about the story.

Responses to Student #9:

1.I agree with you, it was pretty hard to find out what Mrs. Schick was trying to tell us. (8)

Student #11- When Mrs. Schick was using silent directions, I got very confused. Even though it was just moving a chair, it seemed a lot harder. I think this relates to the Franks and the Van Daans having to be silent all day so no one would know they were in the secret annex. During Predator/Protector I got very confused. I didn’t understand what we were supposed to do, so I don’t know how it connects to the text. All I knew is that you had to walk around, but other than that, I don’t know. I think tag is how the Jews had to always be watching so they didn’t get caught by the Nazis (be “it”). I am pretty sure the duck has to do with Anne being loud and being called Mrs. Quack Quack.

Responses to Student #11:

1. That's what I think about the duck too! (16QUESTIONS FOR SECTION 1 -- QUESTION 3 )

2. I got confused too about the chairs but I figured it out after awhile. The predator and protector game was confusing at first but after Mrs. Schick started yelling out where our predators were compared to us, I understood better. We didn't want to be near our predators just like the Jews didn't want to be near the Germans but we wnated to be near or protector just like the Jews wanted to be around people who could help them. I agree with you about tag and the name tag.(17)

Student #12-My thoughts were that the people that had to go into hiding had to use sign to take to each other.

Student #14- I think that slow-motion tag wasn't that fun because we couldn't run away from the person who was "it". The silent directions were hard because what I was doing was different from what others were doing. I felt like I was doing something wrong, even though I was right. Protector and Predator seemed pointless because you never found out who your predator was. It was basically just walking around. The duck name tag was because Anne was called Ms. Quack Quack. I accidentally told the whole class that, but I swear I didn't mean to!

I think the tag game was about how Anne had to move so cautiously around during the day time for fear of the Nazi's. Protector and Predator was the same way. I don't understand how the silent directions fit in.

Responses to Student #14:

1. (12) yes i though the same thing.

Student #15 I felt a little silly playing slow-motion tag. I don’t know what it has to do with Anne’s family. I got silent directions a little bit after Mrs. Schick started to explain-silently-what to do. Protector and Predator was obvious. And the name tag was easy to figure out after we started to read.

I think the name tag for today-the duck-was because of what the students in Anne’s grade called her Miss. Quack Quack.

I don’t get how the game tag fits in with what happened to Anne and her family.

Protector and Predator was obvious. You don’t know who you can trust and who you can’t trust.

Silent Directions fit in with what happened because they had to do everything silently from a certain time to a certain time.

Responses to Student #15:

1. The way you looked at the Protector and Predator was a little different than my idea, but I like it. Everything else you commented on was pretty much the same as what I thought. (3)

Student #16 Predator and Prey is connected to the text because when you were following your protector they could have been thinking you were their predator because you were following them so closely. I liked that game a lot.

Responses to Student #16:

1. #14- I didn't really like that game, but that is just me. I kind of see your point, though. The name tag connection was pretty obvious to me. What did you think of the tag game?

2. *~15~* I thought that you could tell who you where protecting, although I could not tell, and who was avoiding you because you would think the one who was avoiding you would look at you careful, like they were thinking, ‘okay now, go away’ but everyone was basically like, okay what’s the point, get to the point

Student #17 When we had to pick our predator and protector, I picked my friends because I know them a little better than the others. When we were walking around in a circle I didn’t really understand the game but it became a little more clear after we started moving away from our predators and closer to our protectors. I think this game relates to “The Diary of Anne Frank” because the Jews kept trying to move as far away from the Germans as they possibly could but they stayed with people they trusted and people who were in the same situation they were in. When Mrs. Schick gave silent directions, I was wondering, what exactly to do. Then I saw some people doing things and I did some of the things they did but changed them a little bit to what I thought was right. I think this relates to the story because the Franks and the Vann Daans had to be silent until all of the workers below them left because they didn’t want to be reported to the Germans by people who didn’t want to help them. When we played tag I just didn’t want to be it. I avoided the person who was it but I thought that it was kind of hard because I wanted to run sometimes but I couldn’t. I think this game relates to the story because the Germans were chasing the Jews and the Jews were running from them trying not to get caught.I think the name tag stood for what people in Anne's old school called her,Miss Quack Quack, and Peter brought it up in this chapter.

Student #18 The silent directions at the beginning of class that we had to listn to and not talk during them had to do with the period of time during the day where everyone in the secret annex had to stay quiet. I think the toliet tag had to do with the w.c. but I'm not sure what the other tags were. The duck nametag today stood for the "quack quack quack" that Peter said to Anne. The predator and protecter I couldn't make any connection partly because I didn't understand the game that well.

Responses to Student #18:

1. I agree with #17 about the duck nametag and "miss quack quack" although I'm not sure what importance it serves.

Responses to Student #19:

1. today i felt that the game was kind of weird and could not see how this would be related to the text so there fore i could not see how this played into germans attacking all of the jews.
