QUESTIONS FOR SECTION 4 -- QUESTION 5

Page history last edited by Anonymous 3 yrs ago

QUESTION:

The annex "family" continues some of their traditions in the annex despite terrible conditions and danger. What traditions would you do your very best to preserve despite trying times? Why? Try and be specific. For example, the "family" celebrated Hannukah with the menorah, but it was important to Anne to preserve the tradition of giving gifts, so she crafted her own.

Student #1 The tradition I would try to preserve no matter what is eating together at dinner time. We never eat by ourselves; we're not allowed to! At the dinner table over a home cooked meal is where my family does most of our talking and bonding. When the times get lonely and hopeless, it's always important to be around loved ones and to make sure that you stay close and strong. I would also like to keep celebrating Christmas. Giving and receiving presents keeps you remembering that others care about you. The handmade ones that people make even during hard times are the ones that mean even more.

Responses to Student #1:

1. Those are good traditions. My family eats together and has home cooked meals on most nights too, but sometimes we have fast food! I also really like Christmas! I like it because we get to be with our family and have fun.(17)

Student #3 If I were forced into hiding like the Franks, I would definitely choose to celebrate Christmas. It's the biggest tradition that my family and I have. We get together with both sides of the family and have a great time. I love to give and get gifts. It's one of the best parts of the holiday. Getting my gifts makes me feel important and loved. Giving presents is fun too. Seeing everyone's reaction is great! Another tradition that I might choose to preserve would be Thanksgiving because it's another holiday that brings the family together. Seeing everyone gathered around the table eating and talking and laughing makes me feel so good. I'd never want to give either holiday up. They have so many happy memories! :)

Responses to Student #3:

1. Christmas is the biggest tradition in my family as well. I love to watch people open the gifts I give to them too! (11)

Student #4

i would celibrate christmass because we get presents.

Responses to Student #4:

1.(#12) i would celibeate it to!

2. *~15~* But would you just celebrate it because of the presents? Why not the people you are with, the memories?

3. *9* I agree completley with celebrating Christmas, but only because of presents? Wouldnt you rather take the time to spend with your family?

1. me to not only is the food good but thanking that we were togather under any circumstances (23)

2. #9-haha I agree completley. Only I can't make pumpkin pies =(

Student #8-If I had to go into hiding and preserve a tradition it would be the Christmas Holiday. The reason why I would like to preserve the holiday of Christmas is because my whole family gets to gather and we exchange gifts. When we exchange the gifts, my whole family gets smiles on their faces because we have laughs and we are having fun. I would like to see the smiles on my family’s faces and that’s why I would like to preserve Christmas.

Responses to Student #8:

1. I would celebrate Christmas too because it's when our family gets together and we celebrate Jesus' birth. We also exchange gifts and it is really fun. I have such a great time and it is so exciting. #13

Student #9- I would celebrate Christmas because it’s a time to be with everyone and celebrate. You might want to enjoy the times you can have while you still have them, because once there gone, you cant get them back. I would probably also celebrate, not only my birthday, but anyone else’s who was in the annex with me (if they actually had a birthday during the time in the annex). And last but not least, Easter. These holidays are all great times to spend with your family and friends, so why not enjoy your time trapped in a house instead of just moping around being bored?

Responses to Student #9:

1. I love chrismas too it a tradition in my family too!

Student #11- A tradition I would want to keep would be Christmas, not because of gifts (although that is a plus) but because that I when everyone is in such a happy and peaceful mood. It is just such a wonderful time to spend with my family. Easter is also a tradition I would want to keep. About a week prior to Easter my family always gets together with my aunt and uncle and their two kids, and with my great aunt. We always dye tons of eggs, usually too many. That might be a little harder to do if I were in the annex, but I would still look forward to it, even if there were a few less eggs.

Responses to Student #11:I am student # 21 and I agree with you about the not needing presents. They are not important as long as you have a family in a good mood.

2. *9* Thanksgivings awsome!!! i agree! haha

3. me 3!!! #7

Student #13 If I had to celebrate a tradition, I would celebrate Christmas. It is so great to see the smile on the faces when someone opens your gift you gave them. It is also great to celebrate Jesus' birth. Christmas is a wonderful holiday that has been celebrated for hundereds of years.

Student #14- I would celebrate valentines day, probably because it is better then presents on Christmas, or a Thanksgiving feast. To me, it's all about sharing love with others. It always feels so great to get and give valentines because it shows the people who you love and who love you all that they mean. Valentines can mean so much too. For instance, your valentine could be a poem, or a piece of candy, but it always makes the person getting it happy. The best part of this holiday, however, is that it is so unique. Maybe I just like this holiday so much because in my experience, it is always the small things in life that make me happy. The day is just so special. Have you ever noticed that no one is grumpy on Valentine's day? I think it's plain fabulous.

Student #15 The holiday I would probably celebrate even through hard times would be Christmas, because it holds memories from past Christmas’. If you had someone with you that you never get to see, and you see them for Christmas then they memory with stay with you as you celebrate it again and again.

Responses to Student #15:

1. I agree! It's always great to be living in a happy memory again! (1)

2. Me 2! I love happy things lol :) *16*

Student #16 I would probaly keep celebrating Christmas becuase I love spending time with my family and getting presents! :)

Responses to Student #16:

1. I completely agree with you! I also chose Christmas because of family and presents. It's the best part! (3)

Student #17 I would try and still celebrate Christmas because I get to spend time with my family and have fun giving and receiving presents and playing games and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I like spending time with my family and a lot of times I don’t get to that much because we are so busy. I would also try and still celebrate Thanksgiving because it is also a time to spend with your family and give thanks. In my family we all get together and eat and have fun on Thanksgiving and Christmas! We celebrate them with our whole family, including my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. I would also try to read the Bible and have a Bible study on Sundays so that I could keep up with it and not forget anything that I've learned.

Responses to Student #17:

1. #14- That sounds fun. It seems like lots of holidays are about being with your family. Presents are always great, but family time is always more important.

Student #18 My family definately belives in continuing traditions much like Anne improvised by making presents. Even though my uncle's dad died only a couple of days before Christmas last year, we still celebrated as a complete family like we normally do each year on Christmas eve in Dearborn.

Responses to Student #18:

1. Student #17 is right and I agree with him, my family believes in the same values for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Being with your family and people who love is holiday enough.

2.I would keep thanksgiving and chrismas to they seem to be popular.(24)

Student #19

While going through hard times like Anne Frank was going through i would be very sure to celebrate Christmas because it is a holiday about the lord who will most certainly help you through all hard times in your life.

Student #21--I would have to preserve the holiday Christmas. Even though it would sound hard it wouldn’t be, because Christmas is not about gifts. It is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I would not have to give my family gifts; all I would need is a family, some love, and a bible to pray with. (If they really wanted gifts, I would make them one. =] )

Responses to Student #21:

1. -I agree with you because the only thing you need is the smiles of your family and you and your family celebrating the birth of Jesus. (8)

Student #23 If ever were stuck in the annex i would celebrate thanksgiving,i would try to keep it alive by making food and giving thanks im alive
